At the monthly meeting of the city of Fort Collins cultural resources board, the members heard initial ideas discussed a proposal that will be forthcoming about ways to better advertise events in the area.
The coming proposal will request that the board allocate money to be used for advertisements.
A specific amount of money was not given, but will be included presented in the official proposal when given to the board.
The board said that current regulations do not all for money to be allocated for printed materials such as advertisements.
Katie, who brought the discussion as a representative of the convention and visitors bureau, feels that funds are needed to help programs promote themselves.
“There are great organizations out there that have produced really great content,” she said. “Now they need to tell the world.”
The board signaled interest in looking into the reasons why past members made the rule against money being spent for advertising.
The board said that they would consider altering the current budget to allow for money for advertising, but they didn’t want new funds created.
“I don’t like to dilute our funds anymore,” said board member Susan Beck-Ferkiss. “I don’t want to see a new fund, but I wouldn’t mind a change in the regulations.”
All members of the board showed interest in the proposal and felt that advertising in the correct way could be very beneficial.
The board said they will look into the background of the regulations and decide how to proceed after viewing the official proposal.
Other business from the cultural resources board meeting:

She stated that reviews from last year’s Streetmosphere were very positive and they will look to grow the event this year. They also will provide new job openings with Streetmosphere.
• The board members selected which members would be a liaison to certain cultural groups around Fort Collins.
Nice job with this story. There were several things that I thought were strong about this piece. I think that this board is most likely a small organization that not many people know about, I think you did a good job selecting a topic for the story that is both important to the board as well as beneficial for people who may read it. The use of quotes was nicely done. I liked the way you broke them up by introducing who was speaking and then separating the paragraph with their actual quote. It was very effective and read well when looking at the whole story. I also think adding the bullet points at the bottom was good, it was a nice way of adding a little bit of extra information without making the story too long.
ReplyDeleteNice job focusing on the issue of advertising, and the bullet points at the bottom were nice. Good job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I like that you made it clear to the readers that the budget was not mentioned, rather than just leave it out entirely. There is enough and relevant info in this story, once again, great job.
ReplyDeleteyou got the main points and even the not so important stuff at the end! good work! visual and shorter breakout may have helped, but info-wise, it was great!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with this story. If you could have found a Fort Collins resident to interview to see how this would affect them personally, that would have been even better, but I think your story was very informative and you got the most important content in the top of the story. I also liked your breakout at the end, but it would have been a faster read if the bullet points were condensed. You did a good job!
ReplyDeleteI liked the use of bullet points that showed the main points of the article. The bullet points helped me to grasp a better understanding of the article. I also like that you gave information about the meeting and it was set-up very well. Nice article!
